Kinds Of Medical Equipment Used For Surgery

Ever wondered what equipment medical surgeons use and how do they know how and when to use all those? Well, this is why surgeons need to study and train for years. They need to understand not only the human body but also the medical equipment needed to perform certain surgery. For those who are interested to know, such equipments may be classified into two, reusable and disposable equipment. Based on their title, reusable medical supplies are those which can be sterilized and be used again and disposable supplies are those that need to be thrown as it should have a 1 to 1 relationship with its patient like surgical gloves, oxygen or nasal catheters, oxygen mask and many more.

Reusable equipments usually include scalpel, forceps, refractors and of course, scissors. The scalpel is a knife with long handle and a small yet very sharp blade used to make incisions to the skin or cutting in some of body’s soft tissues. Forceps are used to pick up or hold certain tissues during surgery. Refractors are used to keep a certain cut open for the surgery. They come in different sizes for different cuts. And surgical scissors are used to cut through the skin and other tissues. The most common you can find are stainless steel blades but there are also those that are made from tungsten carbon which are more expensive but can last longer than steel. There are also those with black handle which are really sharp and are capable of slicing thick tissues.
